Management

Vladimir Shusterman, MD, PhD, President. Dr. Shusterman is one of the pioneers in the field of personalized intelligent medicine, who combines expertise in engineering, computer sciences, and medicine. Dr. Shusterman's two-decade-long research in artificial intelligence, dynamical analysis of cardiovascular physiology and biomedical engineering laid the technological background for founding PinMed. In addition, Dr. Shusterman has extensive experience and expertise in management of rapidly developing high-tech, life-sciences companies. Dr. Shusterman received his MD and PhD in artificial intelligence from the Institute of Medical and Biological Cybernetics, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, completed postdoctoral fellowship in Biomedical Signal Processing at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Tel Aviv University and in Cardiac Electrophysiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Currently, Dr. Shusterman is also a Faculty Member and Director of Noninvasive Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratories at the Cardiovascular Institute, University of Pittsburgh. Irene Yacobsen, MD, Vice-President, Clinical Development.  Dr. Yacobsen was trained as a cardiologist and has more than 10 years of clinical experience as an attending cardiologist. She has also more than a decade of industry experience as a Medical Director of healthcare companies. She is known both nationally and internationally for her work as a Medical Consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO), development of educational materials and training curricula for health care professionals, development of workshops and training activities, design of clinical studies, development of standards and practice guidelines.

Development Advisory Board

Diane Hill is a marketing professional with 20+ years of experience, providing strategic marketing solutions to the Medical Industry. Ms. Hill's background includes domestic and international product marketing, with extensive clinical experience and physician interaction. Ms. Hill has held a range of positions in sales and marketing management, with several Fortune 100 companies including: Baxter Healthcare Corporation, American Hospital Supply, C.R. Bard Corporation and Electronic Data Systems. She has successfully managed a $100M product line and 75 member Global team. She has also work for several medically focused advertising agencies including Interpublic Group. Ms. Hill has consulted with numerous companies including: Regeneration Technologies, McKesson Corporation, Johnson and Johnson. She has provided strategic direction for many start-up ventures, such as: ViaMedics, PLC Medical Systems, and Healthcourt Technologies. Ms. Hill holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University and a Master's in Business Administration degree from Michigan State University.

Carolyn Green is an Executive VP and COO of Logical Therapeutics and a former Director of the University of Pittsburgh Technology Commercialization Alliance. She has been a Member of Pinmed Business Development Board since 2002. Previously, Ms. Green served as President and CEO of the Carnegie Mellon University spin-out company Mobot, Inc., specializing in artificial intelligence software and hardware for human-computer interactions. Ms. Green's career has included numerous management roles in the computer-aided engineering software sector, serving as Director of North American Marketing and Sales for the publicly traded AEA Technology plc, and as Business Manager for Algor, Inc, where she was responsible for the business development, sales and customer service sectors. In this field, Ms. Green worked with leading research and development scientists and engineers to improve products involving complex fluid flow, heat transfer and chemical and mechanical processes. Her Fortune 500 client base crossed a variety of industries including biomedical, chemical/process, automotive, aerospace, power generation and government/defense. As an independent consultant, Ms. Green has assisted numerous early stage companies with development of their business and marketing strategies, as well as implementation of their sales processes. Ms. Green serves on the Advisory Boards for several technology start ups in the Pittsburgh area. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Leadership Pittsburgh, UPMC Health Ventures Board, the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance Marketing Advisory Board, the Pittsburgh Technology Council Biotech Advisory Board, the LifeSPAN Angel Network Advisors, and the Pittsburgh Gateways Advisory Board. Ms. Green is a member of the Association of University Technology Managers, the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Industry Organization, the Licensing Executive Society and the Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association.

Arun Ranchod is the Business Development and Advanced Marketing Manager in the Corporate Innovations Department of Medrad Corporation. Arun's career of nearly 15 years has been spent in product planning/management, business development, software engineering, and technology development. He has worked at McKesson Automation, Diebold Corporation, The University of Pittsburgh Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellenace and now at Medrad Corporation. He holds an MS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Syracuse University as well as a B.A. in Mathematics from the College of Wooster.

Jay Srini is a Vice President of UPMC Emerging Technologies, an experienced professional with more than 20 years of hands on operational, technology and executive leadership experience. She has proven expertise in multiple industries (financial, manufacturing, logistics and healthcare) and diverse organizations that include, startup, large brick and mortar as well as academic institutions. Her background includes extensive healthcare experience and very strong operational and technical experience encompassing strategic and tactical planning, product design and development, personnel management and organizational startup activities. She was a managing director for E-health initiatives at Internet Venture Works and the COO of MARS (Medical Archival Systems, Inc.), where she led technology and industry assessments of opportunities presented by strategic partners, investors and external sources. She has an extensive background in technology and healthcare both in the payer and provider sector. Her non-healthcare background includes designing, implementing and managing systems for financial institutions (Federal Home Loan Bank), Manufacturing (Bethlehem Steel) and brokerage services (ADP) and serving as a faculty member for Lycoming College. She has a formed a niche consulting firm Strategic Consulting Solutions focusing on the integration of technology and business operations for established institutions and startup ventures. She has a Masters Degree in Computer Science from New York University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Bucknell University and has completed an Executive Education course in E-commerce at the Kellogg's School of Business. She serves on the Advocacy Committee of HIMSS and chairs their Legislative Review taskforce. She is also a President, Strategic Consulting Solutions of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Pittsburgh.

Alan West is an Executive in Residence at the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse. He has over 20 years of experience in managing medical device companies, both in large corporations and small startup companies. These include Johnson & Johnson (J&J), Advanced Mechanical Technology, Inc. (AMTI), Boston Scientific Corporation (BSC), Vision Sciences, Inc. (VSI) and Assurance Medical, Inc. (AMI). Mr. West has a broad technical background and has developed and marketed products in the radiology, cardiology, vascular surgery, dermatology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, oncology, general surgery, sports medicine and orthopedic markets. Mr. West has served as Business Manager and Vice President of VSI, a start-up endoscopy company, and participated in its successful IPO. Mr. West has also established Assurance Medical and served as its President and C.E.O., raising $15.5M from corporate and venture sources. In 2003, he became C.E.O. of Michigan Tech Enterprise Corporation (MTEC), which manages three business incubators. In his career, he has raised more than $45M through private and public offerings and holds numerous patents. Mr. West received a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Brown University and a Masters in Design from Tufts University.


Scientific Advisory Board

Barry London, MD, PhD is a Chief of the Division of Cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and Director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Cardiovascular Institute. He holds and A.B. in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard College, MD and PhD in physiology and biophysics from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. London is a member of the American Association for Advancement of Science, the Biophysical Society, the Massachusetts Medical Society, the American College of Physicians, the Basic Science Council of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, recently elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the nation's most prestigious clinical research organization. Dr. London is a Principal Investigator in several studies funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.

David Schwartzman, MD is a Director of the Atrial Arrhythmia Center, Associate Professor of Medicine, Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory at Presbyterian University Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Schwartzman has served as a Principal Investigator of a clinical trial of PinMed's technology conducted at UPMC in January - March 2005. Dr. Schwartzman is a Member of the UPMC Technology Assessment Committee, Advisory Board Member of Biosense/Webster, Inc., Medtronic, Inc., Cardima, Inc., Zynergy Cardiovascular, Inc., Innercool Therapies, Inc. Dr. Schwartzman is a Principal Investigator in a number of clinical trials and a widely published author with more than 100 scientific publications.

William C. Troy, PhD is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Mathematics. Dr. Troy is a world renowned expert in dynamical analysis, who published over 100 scientific articles. Dr. Troy received his PhD in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Buffalo. His research interests include development and applications of mathematical methods, in particular, differential equations, and computer experiments to the analysis of complex biological and physiological processes. Among Professor Troy's recent research projects are analysis of the dynamics in large-scale neural networks and their role in health and disease.


R&D

Our R&D group includes 10 experienced biomedical engineers, electronic engineers, software engineers, physicists, and cardiovascular physiologists. Members of our R&D team have a proven track record of success in developing innovative biomedical devices that have been sold in the United States and Canada, Europe, Australia, and Far East. Our particular area of expertise is in personalized systems for monitoring and analysis of electrocardiogram, electroencephalogram, blood pressure, vascular tone, and neurophysiological activity.


Financial

Paul Petrovich, CPA, is an Account Manager and a Financial Advisor. Mr. Petrovich is a Senior Technology Consultant of the University of Pittsburgh Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence at Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business.


Legal

David W. Brownlee, Esq., is a Legal Counsel, who works on PinMed's Intellectual Property Portfolio. Mr. Brownlee has been a Legal Counsel at Alcoa Corporation and later a Member of the Intellectual Property Department at Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott.

David V. Radack, J.D., is a Member in and Vice Chair of the Intellectual Property Department at Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott.


QA and Regulatory

Calvin W. Eggers serves as a Quality and Regulatory Consultant for PinMed. Mr. Eggers has extensive experience in QA and Regulatory fields. Most recently, he served as a QA Manager for Respironics, one of the most respected medical device companies in Pittsburgh area.
